The Stats Consultant provides advice about statistics, data sources, and research design to sociology graduate students and to undergraduate sociology honors students. Most of the time, consulting involves answering questions about statistics. Graduate students’ questions are generally brief and often related to STATA. The consultant also might help students develop research questions, locate and access secondary data, or review findings sections of papers (especially second-year papers). With undergraduate honors students, the consultant provides more ongoing advice about developing a research question, finding appropriate data, selecting statistical analyses, and completing statistical tests.
